Shropshire Bronze turkeys from Home Farm, Condover Bred to be wild

Around six months on pasture and woodland, fed on locally grown cereals, then dry plucked and hung for at least 14 days. That is what keeps the meat moist, tender and full of flavour.

Rearing

Six months on the farm

Our turkeys are slow-growing birds. They take around six months to reach maturity, with the freedom to roam across pasture and woodland.

At night they have open-sided barns with deep straw and plenty of fresh air.

Feed and hanging

Nothing added, plenty of time

Their feed is based on locally grown cereals and vegetable protein. There are no additives, drugs or growth promoters, and the birds are GM free.

Our processing is traditional too. Each bird is dry plucked, then hung in fridges for at least 14 days to mature and develop a fuller flavour.

All our facilities are independently inspected for food hygiene.

What sets us apart

Did you know?

Unlike mass produced turkey, the Shropshire Bronze is plucked and prepared by hand without the use of hot water. This intensive wet-processing method used for other turkeys can foster the growth of bacteria which is why it is not recommended to eat it pink. Yet the dry preparation of a Shropshire Bronze which is done by hand, means that the meat is perfectly safe to eat pink - as you might with beef or lamb.
