The Cartwright family, Home Farm, Condover The family behind it

We have farmed at Condover since the 1930s and reared turkeys here since 1996. David runs the farm with his family, including his son Sam.

Months of work

A Christmas tradition, both ways

A Shropshire Bronze takes around six months to rear. The final preparations happen in December, in a short window when every bird is prepared, packed and made ready for collection. It is a team effort.

Most of our customers collect from us in person. We value that. It means we meet the people who will be eating something we have spent months producing, and many of them come back every year.

We hope that collecting a Shropshire Bronze turkey becomes just as much a Christmas tradition for our customers as producing them is for us.

In Sam's words

Why we do it

I have been involved with the farm for most of my life and have always helped during the busy Christmas period.

Sam Cartwright

My favourite part of the Christmas period is speaking to all our customers when they come to collect their turkeys in the final few days before Christmas.

Sam Cartwright

Knowing that something we have worked on for months is going to be at the centre of so many families’ Christmas dinners is very rewarding.

More than turkeys

The rest of the farm

Alongside the turkeys we grow potatoes in Condover for local buyers, the bag market and fish and chip shops.

Farm Friends Day Nursery is also at Home Farm. It is a separate business with its own website.
